PERSONAL LENDING GUIDE
How to keep track of items you lend to friends
Write down the item, who has it and when you expect it back. A record made at the handover is easier to find than a message thread weeks later.

Make a short record at handover
Use a specific name such as “blue two-person tent” and record who took it and the date. A photo helps if you own similar items. For a kit, list the small pieces you expect back, such as the pegs and carry bag.
Set a return date only if you’ve agreed one
If you’ve arranged a return, add the date. Set a reminder for yourself a day or two before, depending on what you agreed. If there’s no date, leave it blank and keep the record open.
Close the record when the item comes back
Mark the item returned when you have it. If pieces are missing, make a note while you can still remember what came back. Keep the completed record so you can check who borrowed the item the next time it goes out.
| Item | Blue two-person tent |
|---|---|
| Person | Alex |
| Lent on | 4 July |
| Expected back | 14 July |
| What went out | Tent, poles, pegs and carry bag |
| Status | On loan |
Do it in the ReBorrow iPhone or iPad app
Choose Lend, then Item. Pick a saved item or add one, choose the person, and add optional return details. Review and save. When it comes back, open the loan and mark it returned. Your friend doesn’t need an account.
